The solution developed by Tecnipesa consists of developing a management and control system for plastic pallets and metal containers based on the use of RFID technology. The system allows absolute control of all pallets and containers leaving and entering the owner's premises, allowing verification of whether these items have been returned.

In order to implement the control system, pallets and containers must be tagged with RFID tags. But tagging must be done in such a way that it does not suffer degradation during use, otherwise the tags could be damaged or lost. In that case, we could not be sure whether the pallets and containers have been returned or not.

The material on which the RFID tags. are placed is involved in the RFID reading process. Therefore, the difference in the materials used to manufacture each of these elements has made it a challenge to come up with a single solution to control both plastic pallets and metal containers at the same time.

In response to this challenge, a special reading system has been used, capable of reaching the labels and reading them through both materials. The reading systems are installed by means of RFID reading gates in different aisles according to their function. All of this makes it possible to read both the "Outgoing" goods, identifying the pallets or containers that have been sent, and the "Incoming" pallets or containers that are returned.

Finally, all this information is integrated into the ERP or central system of each client by means of the customised software developed by Tecnipesa for this application.

In addition to being able to respond to these challenges, RFID technology can reduce labour costs, as it reads autonomously.
