Why are label material and adhesive so important?

To personalise your labels, you must carefully select the material and adhesives of which the label will be composed.

A good combination of material and adhesive will make your labels suitable for the use of the product on which the label will be stuck. It will also prevent it from peeling off or deteriorating easily, leading to errors in product identification and customer complaints.

Customised labels for industrial use

Here are the labels that best suit you, because we know that every application is different:

• Personalised paper labels:
  They are inexpensive and widely used. However, they are not suitable for adverse conditions or outdoor use.
  These labels can be printed with Wax Ribbon or Mixed Ribbon. In addition, if the paper is coated (glossy or matt coated paper) it can be printed with inkjet ink and reprinted with ribbon. Paper labels have a wide variety of uses, from labelling packages and wrapping to more specific uses such as customised stickers for bottles and jars.
• Thermal paper or chemical paper labels:
  They are heat-reactive and are printed with direct transfer thermal printers, so no ribbon is required. They have limited durability, so they are commonly used for receipts, pricing or transporting goods. They do not withstand adverse conditions or exposure to sunlight.

• Synthetic labels (polypropylene, polyethylene and polyester):
  These are adhesive labels that are made of a plastic material that is more resistant than paper labels. They are cold tolerant and resistant to chemicals and acids. This type of label is widely used in laboratories and the chemical industry.
  Can be used with Mixed Ribbon and Resin Ribbon.
  Polyester labels are ideal for high temperatures, while polyethylene labels are more flexible but cannot withstand high temperatures.
• Soluble paper labels:
  These labels are often used on returnable packaging as they do not require aggressive detergents and therefore do not damage the packaging.
  Soluble paper is often used in conjunction with water-soluble adhesives.
• PVC labels:
  These labels are made of a virtually indestructible security material. They are mainly used as security seals and security labels to detect tampering attempts.

Featured adhesives

There are different types of label adhesives to suit different needs:

• Adhesives without trace:
  These adhesives are ideal when you want to stick and peel the label easily, without leaving residues. They are widely used in the labelling of food and other products that require frequent label changes.
• Labels for wet environments:
  If your labels will be exposed to humidity or low temperatures, such as in greenhouses or cold stores, it is important to use specific adhesives for this type of environment. These adhesives ensure that labels remain firmly attached, resisting condensation and moisture.

• Highly durable adhesives:
  These adhesives are specially designed for products that require extremely low temperatures, such as fast food labelling that is stored in freezers. Thanks to their strength, they ensure that the labels remain intact and legible throughout storage and use.

Do you have labelling problems, is your application so specific that you don't know where to start? Consider the following aspects and place your order.

What is the surface to be labelled like?

• Check the type of material to be labelled and what the surface is like: completely smooth, curved, somewhat irregular or particularly rough. It will give you the first clue to move forward with the material.
• We must also check if, in addition, the surface has traces of external agents, such as wood, water, oil or other chemical agents, ...

Do you need a specific colour design?

• If you have a printer from our Epson Colorworks range, it's easy, because these printers allow you to print your labels with full-colour images and designs.
• If you don't have this type of printer, don't worry, just tell us what your idea is, send us the images you need to print on the label and we will make a sketch and then send it to you pre-printed to your liking.

What is your temperature range?

• If the product or commodity to be labelled has a very high temperature or even if it is well below 0°C.
• If the surface, already labelled, is then subject to large temperature changes.
• If the labelled product/goods will undergo washing processes or be in contact with chemical agents.
• If the label will be outdoors.
• If the label is to be exposed to sunlight or heat sources.
• If the label will be subject to constant rubbing or pulling.
• Duration of the label. Do you need it to be readable several years later?

What dimensions should your label have?

• The dimensions of the surface to be labelled must be taken into account.
• But also the type of printer you are going to use, because each printer allows for different maximum and minimum sizes when printing your labels.
