WHY ARE LABEL MATERIALS AND ADHESIVES CRITICAL?

To engineer the ideal bespoke label, you must carefully select its face material and adhesive composition.

Selecting the correct combination ensures your labels remain perfectly matched to the operational lifecycle of your product. The right pairing prevents peeling, degradation, and premature wear—eliminating identification errors and costly customer claims.

Primary Label Face Materials

Highly cost-effective and widely used across general packaging. However, paper labels are not suitable for harsh environments or outdoor storage. They can be printed using Wax or Wax-Resin thermal transfer ribbons. Additionally, coated papers (gloss or matt chromo paper) can be printed via inkjet and overprinted with thermal transfer ribbon. Paper labels serve a vast range of uses, from parcel and shipping labels to specialised adhesive labels for bottles and jars.

Heat-sensitive media printed via direct thermal printers without requiring a thermal transfer ribbon. Offering limited lifespan, they are commonly used for short-term shipping labels, receipts, and price marking. They are not resistant to harsh environments or prolonged sunlight exposure.

High-durability plastic labels designed to outperform paper media. They offer excellent resistance to cold, chemicals, and acids, making them the standard choice across laboratories and the chemical sector. Compatible with Wax-Resin and Resin Ribbons.

Polyester (PET) labels excel in high-temperature environments, while Polyethylene (PE) labels offer superior flexibility for contoured surfaces.

Primarily deployed on returnable containers. Because they wash away without requiring harsh detergents, they protect the container surface from damage. Frequently paired with water-soluble adhesives.

Manufactured from virtually indestructible security materials. Primarily utilised as tamper-evident seals and security labels to detect unauthorised access or alteration.

Optimal Label Adhesives

Ideal for applications requiring clean removal without leaving sticky residue. Widely used in food packaging and items subjected to frequent label changes.

When labels are exposed to moisture or low temperatures—such as in commercial greenhouses or cold storage rooms—specialised adhesives ensure firm, long-term adhesion while resisting condensation.

Specifically formulated for extreme freezing conditions, such as fast-food packaging stored in deep freezers. Their robust formulation guarantees labels remain fully intact and legible throughout storage and distribution.

REQUIRE NEW LABELS? WE CAN HELP YOU SELECT THE RIGHT MEDIA

Struggling with label degradation or application failure? Is your operational environment so specialised that you don't know where to start? Evaluate the key factors below and place your order.

  1. What are the characteristics of the surface to be labelled?

Examine the material and geometry of the application surface: is it completely smooth, curved, irregular, or coarse? This provides your initial indication for selecting the correct face material.
Furthermore, determine if the surface carries external contaminants, such as wood dust, moisture, oils, or aggressive chemicals.

  2. Do you require full-colour custom branding?

If you operate an Epson ColorWorks printer, full-colour label production is seamless.
If you do not own a colour label printer, share your concept and graphic files; our design team will create a proof and deliver premium pre-printed labels tailored to your brand.

  3. What is your operating temperature range?

Determine whether your products experience extreme thermal ranges—such as high heat or sub-zero temperatures below 0°C.
Consider whether labelled items undergo drastic thermal fluctuations, washdown processes, chemical exposure, outdoor weather, or constant UV light exposure.
Factor in mechanical friction and the required label lifespan—do you require legibility over several years?

  4. What label dimensions do your products require?

Consider the physical dimensions of the target surface alongside your printer specifications,
ensuring label sizes remain within your printer's minimum and maximum width and print length capabilities.
